I'm moving my family across country and wanted my son to be able to keep his relationship with his best friend.  I purchased two Logitech series 4000 web cams and have set them up (hooked them up to our computers).  However, my understanding is that we need to use AOL Messenger, Yahoo Messenger or MS Messenger to actually pass the signal between the two web cams.  Unfortunately, our family hasn't used any of the messengers services before.  

My question is this, can we pass a web cam signal between two DIFFERENT services and have it work?  What I mean is that if his friend has Yahoo Messenger and we download MS Messenger can the two web cams communicate?
