how many levels are there in bookworm? im already in level 23 and it's still ongoing..

There's a never ending amount of levels. Here's a screenshot of someone's high score at:

They were on like level 200+, but every level after 30 just results in stars being added to your Bookworm Supreme ranking. How many points it requires to get that far is another question entirely....
