Sitespector checks the webpage's content and displays the new information that was added to the website, visually separating it from the previous information. Using the program you can set the schedule which defines the time for the pages to be checked, and the program will automatically inform you about the changes (if any) the way you have chosen. Sitespector allows to set the rules to define if the webpage can be considered as updated.
Sitespector Main Features:
The program's interface was designed to be as simple as possible, and any user can quickly get used to it. In just a few minutes you will get to know of all sections and features available through the program's interface. The program's multi-window interface allows you to see the changes in web pages in separate windows and set the positions of the windows accordingly and arrange them into groups.
The program allows you to set exact periods of time for the web pages to be checked. The scheduling allows setting various exclusions to optimize bandwidth usage and avoid checking pages in case it is not necessary.
The program can work in the background, and you may choose which way the program will notify you when new information is found on a web page. A number of notification types may be selected: playing sound, blinking program's icon in the system tray or displaying a special popup message.
There is an opportunity to filter out unwanted web page content using special rules and user defined sets of values. Such filtration allows designated information to be ignored on the web page during page updates.
There are three types of filtration values: filtering by the date format, by the time format, and by the text constants. A filter triggers when information on the web page contains one of the several text constants or the date/time values you have set. You can specify the filter values when the page must be considered for update when a new channel issue is to be created for it, and when such issue must not be created.
Also, you may now ignore sections with links where only the link address is changed while the text remains unchanged.
With a special option which allows to ignore images with external links, the program can exclude from the total amount of changes continually refreshing banners, counters, and other unnecessary ?trash?, as well as exclude sections that do not contain letters (dates, time, numbers, etc.). You may filter information on a page by specific values that may include date and time masks or text constants. Such filtering allows to disregard the ?noise? in the content and not consider the page updated when such changes appear on the page.
All new information found on web pages is displayed as individual issues, where new information is presented either by highlighting all changes right on the web page or by displaying the list of changes grouped into separate paragraphs. You may switch between these two views.
All images and objects such as flash movies that are available on the web page being monitored are downloaded to user's computer and stored for channel issues locally. Thus, even if your computer is not currently connected to the Internet, all images in channel issues will be still available for viewing. You may disable this option if you wish. In this case, all images and objects on the web page will be replaced with placeholders; single-color rectangles.
The program can keep an eye on changes in web pages that contain scripts which affect the content of the page. You can disable running scripts on the pages you do not fully trust.
Frames are actually individual pages within a current page. The program allows to monitor changes within these pages and present these changes in the total content of the page's update.
The program allows you to monitor the data that appear on a web page according to your settings - the so-called "personalized data". The following two approaches are used for that.
- The program uses Microsoft Internet Explorer browser's cookies to authorize the user on a web site and obtain the user's personalized settings;
- If it is necessary to put the user name and password into a system form every time the user accesses the server, the user has to specify the values only once and then the program will do the job automatically.
The program allows you to export channels by saving them and all of their settings to a file, which you can then move to another computer, send via e-mail, etc. and then import to another copy of the program.
Using special filters which separate unwanted changes you can lighten the work on searching new information on web sites
